I didn’t say Opera doesn’t do compression. Actually they do a great job at that and their latest version 3.0 now even supports secure connections.

OnSpeed are charging you for the compression service which speeds up the connection – not the browser itself. If you ONLY download Opera Mini, you’ll see that it’s really slow compared to OnSpeed as the traffic doesn’t get compressed.

I wish I had known this. I purchased Onspeed mobile without knowing that it was infact Opera mini. I only discovered this last night and actually Opera mini works better than Onspeed. I still use Onspeed on my laptop but I am a bit cheesed off by the company charging for what is a free service. Thanks for your article.
